Ten Ways to Build Soil Carbon is a practical guide published by Local Land Services that introduces ten actionable strategies farmers and land managers can use to increase soil organic carbon in agricultural soils. It explains simple, paddock-scale approaches — such as improving pasture and grazing management, using cover crops, retaining stubble, minimising tillage, adding organic amendments (like compost or manure), and restoring degraded land — and shows how these practices help increase biomass inputs, protect soil carbon, and improve soil structure and health over time. The booklet is designed as a starting point for property-specific planning and encourages soil testing and adaptive management to track changes in soil carbon.
