Moths, Magpies & Marsupials is enabling 11 member landholders to rehabilitate and revegetate 20 sites on 11 properties in the Southern New England with the aim of connecting fragmented native vegetation and enhancing biodiversity.
Local landholder members will protect 121 ha of remnant vegetation and implement 19 ha of habitat corridors by planting of 13,900 seedlings. In doing so, they will increase available habitat for a range of species including insects, birds, reptiles and mammals. The sites will be managed by the landholders into the future.
The project builds on successful outcomes from past projects implemented by our local members, who have enhanced regional vegetation corridors and communities by planting native species, conserving remnant vegetation and developing sustainable agricultural activities.
This work has increased the coverage of key vegetation corridors across the northern tablelands, linking World Heritage Areas such as the Gondwana Rainforests with remnant vegetation communities. The project also enhances ecosystem services for farms by increasing on-farm biodiversity. This project is made possible with funding received from the NSW Environmental Trust.
