Northern Tablelands Local Land Services is holding an evening Spotlight Adventure Walk on Tuesday 16 April in Armidale, with local ecologist and wildlife expert, Wendy Hawes.

The Adventure Walk, made possible with funding from NSW Catchment Action, will take place between 5 pm and 9 pm at a location close to town and participants will need to bring a torch, sturdy footwear, warm clothes and a sense of adventure!

“It’ll be a chance to meet the locals you never usually see, and learn more about the native animals in your neighbourhood,” said Andrew Walsh, Northern Tablelands LLS Senior Land Services Officer.

After a barbecue dinner Wendy Hawes will lead a spotlight walk into the surrounding bush to find more of the nocturnal locals who often go unnoticed by the human community.

In previous Spotlight Adventure Walks, even participants who have lived in the region all their lives, have been amazed by the diversity of native animals who make their home in local bushland.

    WHAT: Spotlight Adventure Walk
    WHEN: Tuesday 16 April - 5:00pm - 9:00pm
UNE, Newholme Field Lab, Newholme Rd, Armidale

The Spotlight Adventure Walk will highlight the significance of well managed and protected areas of native vegetation to serve as a refuge for rare and valuable native fauna, which provide all sorts of benefits to farmers in the form of ecosystem services.

Funding is currently available to help landholders protect existing patches of bush and to plant more trees on farms which provide habitat for our native fauna. The focus of this funding is along rivers and creeks.

For more information about this funding and the Spotlight Adventure Walk, please contact Andrew Walsh on 0427 433 317.
