Climate Friendly, Australia’s leading carbon farming service provider, is hosting a free day-long field event focused on how carbon projects can benefit agricultural businesses while generating income through Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
Experts will explain the benefits of implementing projects under the Environmental Plantings and Soil methods, including shade and shelter for stock, improved soil health for productivity and the creation of critical koala habitat.
The morning session focuses on Environmental Plantings including a tour of the host 1595 ha grazing property, where 312 ha are being planted to grow critical koala habitat. That’s a total of 80,640 stems comprising 23 different tree and species.
The Koala Friendly Carbon Initiative (KFCI) is a partnership between Climate Friendly, WWF-Australia and private land managers, supported by the NSW Government. Under the initiative, private land managers are supported to grow native forest on parts of their land, diversifying their businesses and generating Australian Carbon Credit Units that earn income.
Climate Friendly is scaling the Initiative with the aim of growing koala habitat across 10-thousand hectares.
The afternoon session will focus on the Soil method of carbon farming. Led by farmers with experience in registered soil projects, it’s a deep dive into soil health and increased productivity with information about how soil carbon is measured and the eligibility requirements for land managers to participate in ACCU generating projects.
