Joel Williams Grant Sims Rachel LawrenceSouthern New England Landcare aims to highlight the latest advancement in soil health and sustainable farming practices on Wednesday the 14th of August at the Armidale Golf Club.

Leading experts Joel Williams from Integrated Soils, Grant Sims from Down Under Covers, and Rachel Lawrence, Natural Capital Advisor from Northern Tablelands Local Land Services (NT LLS), will share their knowledge and practical insights to help farmers improve their agricultural operations.

“It is not often we get three speakers of this calibre together in the New England,” said Struan Ferguson, Local Landcare Coordinator with Southern New England Landcare, who is looking forward to an enriching day, with the opportunity to listen to internationally acclaimed speakers and locals alike.

Joel Williams is an Australian expert in soil health and crop nutrition currently living in Canada whose work focuses on managing soil biology, crop & soil nutrition to optimise plant immunity and soil function and sharing both scientific and practical knowledge on agroecological growing practices.

Grant Sims, founder of Down Under Covers and former President of Vic No Till, was recognised as the Coles Weekly Times Farmer of the Year in 2015 and is known for his approach to sustainable, regenerative agriculture, utilizing multispecies cover crops and biological fertilizers to optimise soil health and animal production.

“Joel is very good at explaining the science so that we can understand the complexity of plants and their interactions with microbiology and mycorrhizal fungi,” said Struan.

“Grant Sims is an excellent speaker, with a very practical approach who creates and applies his own biological fertilisers for both cropping and cattle production benefits,” said Struan.

“We are lucky to have Rachel Lawrence based locally to assist landholders to gain clarity about what is happening in the Natural Capital space, we need to make use of her talents to help our landholders participate,” she said.

Dr. Rachel Lawrence is the new Natural Capital advisor for the NT LLS whose role involves keeping abreast of developments in the natural capital schemes and supporting farmers in building natural capital profiles.

Attendees will gain valuable insights into sustainable agriculture, benefiting both their operations and the environment.
