Spend the day discovering the ecological value and ongoing restoration of Racecourse Lagoon. This free field event brings together local knowledge and specialist insights across wetland botany, birds, beneficial insects, weeds and regional biosecurity.

The morning program will introduce the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust Highland Wetlands project and the work underway at Racecourse Lagoon under the NSW Environmental Trust’s Conservation and Ecological Restoration of Racecourse Lagoon project.

Presenters will explore why wetlands matter, the plants and habitats they support, common bird and insect species, local weed threats, general biosecurity practices, and current regional issues including avian influenza and cane toads.

After lunch, join guided field sessions focused on wetland plant, bird and bug identification, along with a walk exploring revegetation work around the lagoon perimeter. The day is designed for landholders, community groups, birdwatchers, families, students and anyone interested in wetlands and local biodiversity.

This event is jointly funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust, delivered by Northern Tablelands Local Land Services, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel, and NSW Environmental Trust’s Conservation and Ecological Restoration of Racecourse Lagoon project, delivered by Uralla Shire Council, with support from Southern New England Landcare Ltd under the NSW Landcare Enabling Program, a collaboration of Local Land Services and Landcare NSW supported by the NSW Government.
