    Completed Projects

2012-2013 All the Dirt - Understanding Soils at Malpas

    Funds: $20,000

    Source: Community Action Grant

    Contract: CAG11-00184

This project's aims were to give landholders increased understanding of their soil and how it can be managed sustainably. Malpas Catchment Group landholders participated in a number of workshops to address the following

    1. Why land degradation has happened and how to avoid it
    2. What has happened to soil carbon and how to get it back
    3. The importance of water, mineral and nutrient cycling
    4. Why and how economic and ecological ideals can be achieved simultaneously.

Improved soil health must be achieved in the Malpas Catchment, for sustainable production and improved water quality in the Gara River and Malpas Dam. This project aimed tol give control back to the land manager, enabling them to make more informed decisions for managing their land sustainably.
