Congratulations to Dr Knox on winning the prestigious General Jeffrey Soil Health Award, at the recent National Landcare Awards. The New England region is lucky to have another recognised soil health hero!
Excerpt from Landcare Australia's 2022 Newsletter.
"Whether zooming into classrooms or kicking the dirt with farmers, Dr Oliver Knox – Associate Professor in Soil Systems at the University of New England (UNE) – is passionate about embedding an understanding of soil health in the psyches of all Australians. For his outstanding efforts, including his instrumental role in driving the Soil Your Undies program in Australia, Dr Knox has been named the 2022 recipient of the General Jeffery Soil Health Award.
The General Jeffery Soil Health Award was established in 2020 by the Office of the National Soils Advocate to honour the memory of Australia’s first National Soils Advocate, Major General the Honourable Michael Jeffery, AC, AO (Mil), CVO, MC (Retd).
The 2022 Award was presented by Australia’s National Soils Advocate, the Honourable Penny Wensley AC, at the National Landcare Awards in Sydney last month.
With the prize money, Dr Knox plans to engage even more young people—the future guardians of Australia’s soil. He said his work would not be possible without farmers, school classes and community groups."
