Graeme Sait to Deliver Soil Health Workshop in Ben Lomond
“We are delighted to welcome Graeme to the New England,” said Campbell Wolfenden, member of the Guyra Landcare Network. Graeme is the co-founder of Nutri-Tech Solutions (NTS), a world leader in sustainable agriculture education and products. Progressive Sustainable Agriculture and Food for Ben LomondBen Lomond Landc Brian Marshall, a retired Holistic Management educator and Ben Lomond local, presented on land function, ecosystem processes, tools for managing land to meet objectives, overgrazing and recovery times, as well as planning for cash surplus and monitoring ecological health. “I wanted the group to get back to the business of Landcare, and that was the purpose of the day,” said Brian. Guest speaker Heidi McElnea, a qualified permaculturist and owner of Highland Permaculture, spoke about animal and plant food systems, cycling waste into resources, leveraging permaculture design, and fostering backyard biodiversity. Learning from Plants - Giant Parramatta Grass
Scientific Name: Sporobolus fertilis Where in the Succession: Low Fertility Exploiter Giant Parramatta Grass is a summer-active perennial grass species. It is native to the sub-continent of India as well as eastern Asia. It thrives in tropical, subtropical, and warm-temperate landscapes, with a preference for higher rainfall regions, but is quite adaptable to drier environments. Interestingly, Giant Parramatta Grass is one species within the Sporobolus family; another is Giant Rat’s Tail Grass, which is also causing significant issues. In total, there are 26 species in the family, and overall, they are challenging to distinguish, with many requiring an expert to accurately identify the specific species. Read More |
SALRC Northern NSW Regional Committee Recruitment
The SALRC network encompasses grass-fed beef and sheepmeat producers and R&D professionals throughout Australia. As part of SALRC’s commitment to building industry and organisational capability, recruitment is now underway for key livestock producer members in south-eastern Australia. Producer members are eligible to serve a three year term, with positions eligible for re-appointment at the conclusion of their first term. Read More |
