The history and significance of Malpas Dam to our region

05 malpas dam outlet towerArmidale’s water supply has evolved over time, with Malpas Dam, built in 1968, becoming the primary source.

Originally designed to meet a 20-year demand, the dam holds 13,000 megalitres, but its shallow catchment area limits inflows, making it vulnerable to drought conditions.

The 2017-19 drought highlighted these vulnerabilities, prompting ongoing efforts by the Armidale Regional Council and water authorities to develop a sustainable water management plan.

National Survey Seeks Insights on Farm Succession Success

family paddock 1200pxA new national farm succession survey, led by the University of New England (UNE), aims to uncover why some families navigate the process successfully while others struggle.

The FarmTransfer survey, the first of its kind in 20 years, seeks 700+ respondents to provide data-driven insights into succession planning.

The findings will help farm families, industry groups, and consultants improve the process and may lead to a practical guide for those facing succession challenges.

This publication by the NSW governments DPI reflects the unique pressures placed on NSW producers before, during and after drought, fire and flood.

It includes strategies and actions that farmers can consider to make informed decisions both for their business, and the wellbeing of them and the people around them.

It also includes information on relevant resources from the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and Local Land Services, practical information on feeding livestock, farm management and sustainable practices around soils, pastures, cropping and natural resources.

This FRURALLA SHIRE COUNCIL RENEWABLE ENERGYEE 1-hour event explores the energy transition underway in Uralla Shire, and our region’s role as a Renewable Energy Zone.

We’ll be joined by an expert panel, answering your questions about development, policy, careers and the future of renewables in our region:

  • Dr Andrew Feitz – Scientist at Geoscience Australia and Environmental Scientist,

Barry Munday Reserve Tree Planting
