Last Places Still Available for MasterTreeGrower

Course begun but still a chance to join before 11th October

If you are keen to gain your Master TreeGrower qualification or are just interested in agroforestry for whatever reason there are a couple of spots left in the second Master TreeGrower Course being run by southern New England Landcare.

Llangothlin/Ben Lomond Bird Walk

Sunday 16th October 2016, 10am - 3pm
Meet at 168 Ben Lomond Rd, Llangothlin

Guided walk along the railway line to hear and identify birdlife, observe bird habitats and consider what makes a good bird landscape. Then picnic lunch and stroll around the property at 168 Ben Lomond Rd. Ample time to discuss projects, catch up, look at a local small farm, develop your own ideas.

BYO: packed lunch, full water bottle, walking shoes, hat, binoculars, long-sleeved shirt/sun-screen (or wet weather gear!).

Tea, coffee, nibbles, on-site parking and good company provided.

Farm-Link to Provide Healthy Living & Suicide Prevention Skills

Farm-Link together with SNELandcare, GWYMAC Landcare and local councils are providing free healthy living and suicide prevention skills for people in local communities. The format will be a short friendly workshop on ways you can support yourself and others. These are free events. Tea, coffee & light refreshments will be available for a gold coin donation.

Want to get a few people to a ‘get-together’, but don't know where to start?

Are you new to the area, or have developed an interest in a sustainable agriculture or natural resource management topic? Are you part of a Southern New England Landcare group that has lapsed due to seasonal circumstances or lack of help, or not had a reason to get together for a fair while?

If, yes to any of the above, you are not alone! Our coordinators have been assisting a number of groups to get started or to get some stumps back under them. So, come join the fray and get started by:

Thank you to those of you who've braved the digital world and completed your 2016-17 SNELandcare membership via our new website.

Signing up as a SNELC member is easy via our website. Just click on MEMBERSHIP towards the top right hand side of our Home Page. You will then need to choose the 'Membership Signup' for the first time round, even if you have been a SNELC member previously, utilising our old way of collecting subscriptions. Choose a membership category which suits you and pay using Paypal, Direct EFT to our bank account or by coming into the office to pay using a cheque or cash.

New SNELC entry - from Coles Carpark

The main entrance to the SNELC office is now from up the steel staircase at the rear of our building, on the southern side of Coles carpark. This is more practical for many of our customers, as it gives them the utilises convenience of Coles Carpark and utilises a much more bright and warm part of our premises.

NENW Landcare Adventure – Farming Smarter Communities

There are currently so many advances in technology and new approaches to sustainable agriculture, productive enterprises and supporting rural and regional communities. The 18th New England North West Landcare Adventure on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th May 2017 in Armidale and Uralla will be such a great place to catch up on it all!

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
Thursday 17th - Friday 18th November, Armidale City Bowling Club

ASIST is the world's leading suicide intervention workshop. During the two-day intereactive session, partipants learn to intervene and help prevent immediate risk of suicide. In ASIS, participants learn to apply a suicide intervention model - helping people to reconginse when someone may be at risk of suicide, how to connect with them and increase their safety.

Cost: $110 pp(usually $300 pp) .BBQ lunch provided.

ABARES Regional Outlook Conference

2016 NLP Community Grants

Applications for fundiing ($2k-$8k)to assist community groups, organisations and individuals in facilitating more resiliant, adaptive communities across the Northern Tablelands will be accepted until 5pm Friday 7th October 2016.

Eligable activities include events, workshops, capacitiy building activities including (but not limited to):
- succession planning
- mentoring
- leadership development
- forward planning
- fostering regenerating community groups
- farmer-to-farmer or peer-based mentoirng for practise change- partnership projects between community groups, schools, local government.

A resource for primary producers to help you value-add, build marketplace strength and boost returns

This $14m initiative is a national 2-year campaign for primary producers and processors to collaborate and claim marketplace power.

Farming Together aims to build financial and societal sustainabiity across Australia's smaller primary producers.

All farmers who register receive one-on-one expert discussion re their opportuniites and appetite to create a =successful collaborative group - a co-operative, a collective bargaining entitiey or a less formal collaborative group.
