Picnic for Nature and 4 Wonderful Walks - Sunday 16th October 2022

 Across the state local communities are hosting picnics - coming together to celebrate nature;

a fun day of getting outside with your family; an opportunity to celebrate the natural beauty and biodiversity of our local area

and a chance to connect with our local community.

Armidale Aboretum

Whether your passion is koalas, frogs, wildflowers, skinks, Regent Honeyeaters or you simply love escaping into the bush- there will be something for everyone.

Picnic for Nature

12 noon - 2pm Armidale Arboretum (below 225 Galloway St)
Enjoy the wildflowers and trees, activities for kids and adults, learn about Armidale’s Arboretum and find out about nature- focused groups in our community.

4 Wonderful Walks

10:00-9.30am Mike O’Keefe Woodland
Enjoy a quiet dawdle through the reserve managed by Armidale Tree Group. An ornithologist will help you see and identify the birds. Park between 78 Kentucky St and the bridge over Black Gully.

10:00am Explore Creeklands revegetation with Armidale Urban Rivercare Group
Hear how forests of weeds have been replaced with native habitats and see where volunteers of all ages can help plant the next 21,500 plants. Meet at the Armidale Visitor Information Centre for 4km walk along bike path.

2:30pm Drummond Park bushland and Snow Gums Bushland Reserve
Discover wildflowers of all colours, butterfly territories and identify birds and imagine the First Nations people who lived in this place until about 1940. ATG Bushcare volunteers will explain how they help the bushland regenerate. 0.5 or 2 km circuit walks from Apex Lookout (top of Jeffrey St).

5:00 pm Walk along a 2km wildlife corridor with Citizen’s Wildlife Corridors (CWC) bushcare volunteers. Meet on corner of Trelawney Rd and Rockvale Rd (3km from Ben Venue School).

Groups involved Armidale branch of National Parks Association, Armidale Tree Group and its bushcare groups, Australian Plants Society (Armidale); Armidale Urban Rivercare Group, Friends of Angophora Bushland Reserve, Animal Welfare League NSW, Climate Action Armidale (SLA), Northern Tablelands Wildlife Carers, Southern New England Landcare and Wildlife Habitat Group (SLA)
