Farmers have your say: Right to Farm Policy

Right to Farm policyFarmers have until Sunday 28 February to provide the NSW Department of Primary Industries with feedback on a recent review of the state’s Right to Farm Policy to help guide the development of an Agriculture Land Use Planning Strategy (ALUP).

All feedback should be emailed to agcommissioner@dpi.nsw.gov.au. Alternatively, you can complete the survey here.

Beef Cattle Welfare Benchmarking - seeking trial participants

cattle benchmarkThe CSIRO Animal Welfare Team in Armidale, in conjunction with NSW DPI and MLA, are embarking on a joint venture to develop a science-based animal welfare benchmarking program for the beef cattle industry. Help is required from local beef producers to participate in the trial.

Govt $$ Incentives for Seasonal Work

Incentives to Encourage Australians to Undertake Seasonal Work
To support the agricultural sector and young Australians affected by the economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Government is committing $16.3 million to temporarily introduce a new pathway for achieving independence for the purposes of Youth Allowance (student) and ABSTUDY.

From 30 November 2020 to 31 December 2021, a person who earns $15,000 through employment in the agricultural sector will be considered independent for Youth Allowance (student) or ABSTUDY purposes, if claiming from 1 March 2021.

The Salvation Army’s national Bushfire Recovery Team is here to help, making regular informal visits to fire affected communities from Coffs Harbour to Tweed Heads, as well as Walcha to the QLD border, and everywhere in-between.

Bushfire Legal Aid Scheme

Under the new Commonwealth funded Bushfire Legal Aid Scheme, small businesses and farmers with legal issues related to the 2019/2020 bushfires can apply through a private lawyer for funding to assist with their legal costs. If you are an eligible small business or primary producer, you can apply for funding of $2000 to assist you to resolve your legal matter, and up to $5000 for related expenses.

DPI's Rural Recovery Support Service is working with primary producers, small landholders and communities across the Northern Tablelands to support recovery after disasters or adverse events. They can provide practical and personal support in managing your recovery, linking you with services and assisting with decision making and future planning.
