Workshop Outcomes - Landcare at the National Level

On 11 June 2020, more than 20 Southern New England Landcare members came together in an online forum to workshop and discuss the national landcare situation.

LNSW CEO Dr Adrian Zammit had previously provided background to the situation in an open letter to members, while also providing a summary of key messages.

The workshop outcomes showed a high level of frustration, while also providing some great suggestions for ways forward.

Possible New Community Solar Farm

Starfish's Farming the Sun community solar energy collaboration has begun work on a possible new community solar farm, situated on the outskirts of Uralla in the NSW High Country.

Weed Watch: African Lovegrass

ALG photographer Bruce Auld DPIAfrican lovegrass is a species in the Northern Tablelands which is widely distributed. It has low feed value, can quickly colonize disturbed areas and can grow to a large perennial tussock grass of 1.2 m in height. African lovegrass grows on acidic, sandy soils with low fertility and can tolerate heat, drought and frosts. It is a born survivor.

Crown Reserves Improvement Fund Program

The Crown Reserves Improvement Fund Program (CRIFP) supports Crown land managers (CLMs) by providing funding for repairs and maintenance projects, pest and weed control, new recreational infrastructure or environmental initiatives. FRRR Tackling Tough Times Together Grants

The Tackling Tough Times Together grant program helps communities access the resources they need to support one another through the ongoing effects of the drought. Grants are available for a broad range of grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit local communities. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and assessed quarterly.

EPA Community Litter Grants

  • Stream 1: On-Ground litter prevention projects - $4,000 to $40,000
  • Stream 2: Own It and Act partnership projects - $50,000 to $90,000

To help deliver the NSW Government target to reduce litter by 40% by 2020. More information here.

MindHealth Phone Line 1300 029 131

O MindHealth Page 1From 1 July 2020, Monday – Saturday, a new phone line will offer support and counselling for people who may be anxious, worried, or feel like they need to talk to someone about a challenging time. This is not a crisis service – but those in crisis will be supported to access other services that are better suited to their needs.

No referral is required – just pick up the phone and call 1300 029131.

You can help promote this service by downloading the Poster, the Calling Card or the DL Brochure.

Farm Gate Support Program

The Farm Gate Support Program provides free mental health and emotional support to farmers, farming families, local businesses and service providers affected by the drought, bushfires & COVID 19.

appropriate social distancing rules and regulations, from Tuesday 16th July 2020.
Office hours are normally 9am-3.30pm Tuesday to Thursday.
