The speaking and drama competition, supported by the Catholic Schools Office Diocese of Armidale and local council, is designed to help high school students understand the relationships between personal choices and global issues.
This year’s focus was on ‘Connecting People to Nature’ which is the UN’s World Environment Day theme for 2017.
Students from O’Connor Catholic College, Holy Trinity, PLC, Armidale High and St Philomena’s (Moree) participated in categories of Prepared Speech, Impromptu Speech and Impromptu Drama.
“Speaking for the planet gives students an opportunity to think about their role in the future of the environment whilst helping them develop lifelong skills such as public speaking,” Director of Catholic Schools, Chris Smyth said.
The public speaking winners were Chloe Brazel and Alliyah Davison of St Philomena’s, Moree.
The drama performance winners were Armidale High School’s Challa Gow, Charlotte Charteris, Ella Pringle and Liz Zemlyanoy.
